Police chief appointment: Debate delayed five weeks

By Diane Simon

Acting police chief David Warcup will be appointed to the post on a permanent basis, if the States agree

HOME Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand has delayed for five weeks the States debate over whether acting police chief David Warcup should be appointed permanently.

The debate is now likely to take place on Tuesday 25 May.

The minister wants to ensure that before States Members make their decision they have the main findings of two key reports carried out by outside police forces about the supervision by police chief Graham Power and running by the States police of the historical child abuse inquiry.

The minister originally lodged a proposition on 16 March calling on the States to appoint Mr Warcup as police chief, with the debate set for next Tuesday.
