Back in town

By Dolores Cowburn and Lucy Mason

FORMER Senator Stuart Syvret was arrested yesterday after he arrived back in Jersey from self-imposed exile in London.

The ex-States Member, who had been out of the Island for more than six months, was arrested at the Airport on a warrant issued after he failed to turn up for court appearances related to motoring and data protection charges.

When his 1.30 pm flight touched down from Gatwick a group of 14 supporters were waiting to greet him, but they were left disappointed when he was arrested in the baggage collection area before he had the chance to reach the arrivals hall.

He was taken straight to the Magistrate’s Court for an afternoon hearing at which Assistant Magistrate Bridget Shaw gave him bail on condition that he provided a local address.

He was granted bail until his next appearance on 29 May and also ordered to surrender his passport and driving licence.
