Public Meeting with Stuart Syvret.

Borrowed from the only reliable media outlets in  JerseyThe Voice

Public Meeting with Stuart Syvret.Below is some video of the public meeting held by former Senator Stuart Syvret Monday night, 17th May 2010 with co-chair Dr Mark Forskitt.

After talking on the phone today with a senior editor at CTV we have been informed, they will not be broadcasting any of the meeting any time soon, because among other reasons, they found there was nothing that was “news worthy” contained in the meeting. So once more it has been left to Citizens Media to broadcast the stuff that our “accredited” media won’t.

We decided the clip to use would be that of a dissenter challenging Mr. Syvret and Mr. Syvret’s response. Respect has to go to the gentleman for speaking out against Mr.Syvret because the Town Hall was full with a huge majority being in favour of Mr.Syvret and his “message.” It must be said that Mr. Syvret spent a great deal of time at the beginning of the meeting explaining why he went to London and what he was doing over there which would have caused some of the “heckling” the questioner received.

The reason we chose this clip is because we believe it is the clip the “accredited” media would have used, had they broadcast any of the meeting. Well saying that, personally I believe they would have showed the question but not the answer, but maybe that’s me just being too sceptical!

Furthermore I would like to say that the Senior Editor at CTV agreed that there was DOUBLE the amount of 120 people at the meeting as reported in the JEP. Viewers will be able to make their own estimation of the amount of people present.

VFC would like to say we have no evidence to substantiate the claims made by Senator Syvret concerning the Crown Officers/Offices and 7 Bedford Row and they are entirely the opinion of Mr. Syvret……………and the huge majority of the crowd.

This isn’t a case of “you saw it here first” it is a case of you ONLY saw it here.
Perhaps I will publish what Stuart had to say at the meeting about the Mainstream Media next?

Stuart Syvret Interview.
Last Friday the 14th May 2010 Team Voice interviewed former Senator Stuart Syvret “in-depth.” Below is the video of part one of that interview.

Team Voice wanted to put the questions to the former Senator that we believed the public would want answers to and in particular, those of his detractors. So much did we want his detractors questions put to him, we actually contacted an alleged victim of his Blog and asked that person for the questions they wanted asked……and we asked them - which will be the next instalment of this in-depth interview.

As the title explains this video interview with Stuart Syvret is part two of a trilogy. This particular instalment focuses on the questions that were written by an alleged victim of Stuart’s Blog.

We believe we have been fairly objective in the two interviews with Stuart and have put some pretty tuff questions his way, which in fairness to him, he has answered “in depth”

Part three of the this trilogy, will concentrate on the “personal” side of his battle with the establishment, what has been his personal cost?

Part one of the interview can be seen Here

Stuart Syvret part 3 of 3.
As regular readers/viewers of Team Voice will be aware, we were, on the 14th of may 2010, granted an in-depth interview with Stuart Syvret. This is the third and final instalment of the interview with part one being here and part two being here.

We believe the first two interviews were pretty tuff with the questioning of Stuart and this final part will bring a bit of balance to the interview. Here we try to concentrate on the personal cost to Stuart and is it all worth it?

Stuart Syvret calls for party politics

By Andy Sibcy

Mr Syvret told the meeting that he wanted a more accountable States STUART Syvret last night threw his weight behind calls for party politics as the best way to create a fairer and more accountable States system.

At a public meeting at the Town Hall which effectively marked his public re-emergence onto the Island’s political stage after six months of self-imposed exile, the former Senator said that, if elected in the forthcoming by-election, he would work to establish a new party which could fight the first ‘general election’ in 2012.

He said that Jersey politicians needed to be held accountable through manifesto pledges and that the maintenance of the current system of independent Members merely enabled the ruling elite to marginalise the will of the people.

In front of around 120 people who attended the meeting called by Mr Syvret, the former Health Minister also revealed that he still harboured ambitions to be Chief Minister and would stand for the post if re-elected. However, he said that he would rather do so as the head of a political party having first been elected by its members.

Community service in porn case

By Jo Hutchison

Andrew David Roberts arriving at the Royal Court

AN ex-honorary policeman who downloaded the ‘most depraved images of child pornography’ – including searching the internet to view the rape of a baby – was sentenced to community service by the Royal Court yesterday.

Andrew David Roberts downloaded more than 500 indecent photographs of children – including some images of sadism, bestiality and children having sex with children – the court heard.

The 40-year-old was convicted in March of downloading 340 indecent photographs of children between 1 January and 20 December 2007 and downloading 186 indecent photographs of children between 1 January and 26 February 2008 during a trial in March. Some of the images were of children under the age of ten.

Roberts, who left the St Helier honorary police force about ten years ago, was sentenced to 276 hours of community service for the two child pornography offences and a further charge of fraud. He had already admitted criminally and fraudulently obtaining £1,635 from the Social Security department between 1 August and 30 September 2008.

Back in town

By Dolores Cowburn and Lucy Mason

FORMER Senator Stuart Syvret was arrested yesterday after he arrived back in Jersey from self-imposed exile in London.

The ex-States Member, who had been out of the Island for more than six months, was arrested at the Airport on a warrant issued after he failed to turn up for court appearances related to motoring and data protection charges.

When his 1.30 pm flight touched down from Gatwick a group of 14 supporters were waiting to greet him, but they were left disappointed when he was arrested in the baggage collection area before he had the chance to reach the arrivals hall.

He was taken straight to the Magistrate’s Court for an afternoon hearing at which Assistant Magistrate Bridget Shaw gave him bail on condition that he provided a local address.

He was granted bail until his next appearance on 29 May and also ordered to surrender his passport and driving licence.

Security scare at Nick Clegg speech as Lib Dem leader is heckled by angry voter

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 12:36 PM on 3rd May 2010

Nick Clegg was left visibly shaken this morning after an angry heckler shouted abuse at him as he addressed a crowd on the campaign trail.

The Lib Dem leader's speech was suddenly cut short by a man in the crowd who shouted questions about 'institutional paedophile rings' and 'secret family courts.'

The man was eventually hustled away by party staff and Mr Clegg, who looked a little flustered by the interruption, was able to resume his speech.

Mr Clegg accused David Cameron of 'breathtaking arrogance' as he spoke to the crowd of around 400 people in Blackheath, south London.

And he warned that the Tory leader was already 'measuring up the curtains' of 10 Downing Street before the electorate had cast their votes.

'In this country you don't inherit power, you have to earn it,' he told the crowd.

Mr Clegg also unveiled a number of big name supporters, including Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe and Colin Firth, who are backing the Lib Dem's election campaign.

Urging voters to back the Lib Dems, Mr Clegg said a 'stitch-up' between the Tories and Labour was not in the interests of the country or its future prosperity.

Mr Clegg commented: 'I welcome the support of everyone who recognises this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a real difference in Britain.'

With Mr Cameron setting out clear plans for government from Friday and indicating he would attempt to lead a minority government in the event of a hung parliament, Mr Clegg went on the attack against the Conservative leader.

'What kind of change do the Conservatives offer?' he asked. 'Have you seen the newspapers this morning? David Cameron, with breathtaking arrogance, is already measuring up the curtains for No 10 before you have even voted.'

With Lib Dem supporters booing the prospect, he went on: 'Telling you what he's going to do with Britain, when it's not for him to tell you what to do with this country.

'It's for you to tell us, the politicians, what kind of future you want.

'I have a simple message for David Cameron: in this country you don't inherit power, you have to earn it.

'Don't let David Cameron or anyone else tell you what you've got to do. Vote with your heart. Vote with your instincts. Vote for the future you want.

'Don't let anyone tell you what to do in these vital final three days.

'We have an opportunity of a lifetime, a once-in-a-generation chance, to change Britain for good.'

The Lib Dem leader championed the cause of the Gurkhas in their campaign for greater rights.

Mr Clegg was draped with a traditional yellow Nepalese katha scarf by supporters as he walked through the crowd, accompanied by his wife Miriam Gonzalez Durantez.

At one point he exchanged a high-five with a supporter while waiting to be interviewed on TV.

Mr Clegg said there were three days left in 'this most exciting' campaign to deliver fairness for the country.

Accusing Labour of letting down the country, he said that under Gordon Brown's leadership the Government had 'destroyed civil liberties on an industrial scale' and introduced a 'grotesquely unfair' tax system.

He denounced the current political system as a 'stitch-up between two old vested interests, who are only interested in themselves and not in the welfare, and fortunes and prosperity, and future of the UK'.

Urging supporters to campaign every minute of the day, he said: 'Anything can happen. The sky's the limit.

'David Cameron may be measuring up the curtains. I know what we're doing - we're listening to the people and saying it's your country and your future.'

Other celebrity backers for the party include presenter Floella Benjamin and musician Brian Eno.

Professor Dawkins said in a statement: 'I shall vote Lib Dem mostly because scrapping the ludicrous 'first past the post' system will turn us into a proper democracy whose benefits will long outlast the next parliament...'

Colin Firth said: 'As a once-committed Labour voter I, like so many, have been appalled by the abandonment of the values they advocated while in opposition.

'For me, their conduct on asylum alone is reason enough never to be able to contemplate voting for them again.'

Armando Iannucci, writer/director of The Thick Of It and In The Loop, said: 'I'll be voting Lib Dem this election because they represent the best chance in a lifetime to make lasting and fair change to how the UK is governed.'

No election eligibility statement from Jersey law lord States Assembly

The newly-elected senator will be sworn in on 18 June. The Attorney General has said he will not make a statement about a former senator's eligibility to run for his old seat in Jersey.

Stuart Syvret automatically lost his seat after being in "self-imposed exile" in the UK for six months.

He has indicated he would like to run in the by-election, but candidates must ordinarily be resident in the island.

Attorney General Timothy Le Cocq said it was up to candidates to make sure they were qualified to be elected.

If a ruling was needed it would be a matter for the court alone to make, he added.

The States Assembly, the island's decision-making body, is made up of 12 senators who sit for a six-year term.

The by-election will be held on 16 June with the new senator sworn in on 18 June.

Election: Stuart Syvret’s eligibility remains unclear

By Richard Heath

The Attorney General, Tim Le Cocq SENATORIAL by-election candidates will be formally nominated in three weeks – but it is still not clear whether Stuart Syvret will be able to stand.

The nomination meeting will be held at the Town Hall at 7.30 pm on 25 May. All candidates must complete an election form signed by ten people before being formally nominated.

The election is being held to fill the position left vacant by former Senator Stuart Syvret, who was forced to vacate his seat after being absent for six months. Mr Syvret, who is in self-imposed exile in the UK, wants to stand in the election, but it is thought he may have been out of the Island for too long.

The Attorney General, Tim Le Cocq, said yesterday that it was not for him to decide whether Mr Syvret could stand for re-election – it was a matter for the Royal Court.

Three Islanders have already announced that they will stand. Deputy Geoff Southern, St Helier businessman Gino Risoli and Islander Graeme Jenkins, who is unemployed, will all contest the election on 16 June.
