ASSISTANT Magistrate Bridget Shaw has refused to summon a number of Jersey’s top civil servants as witnesses in Senator Stuart Syvret’s abuse of process hearing.Senator Syvret (43) denies driving without a licence and failing to notify the relevant authorities of a change of address. He also faces two charges under the Data Protection Law relating to material published on his internet blog.
The Senator is arguing that there has been an abuse of process leading up to the charges against him and yesterday in the Magistrate’s Court he listed 13 witnesses that he would like to call.
However, yesterday Mrs Shaw rejected the politician’s request to bring the following people to the dock; Attorney General William Bailhache, States chief executive Bill Ogley, Jersey’s former Detective Superintendent Mick Gradwell, acting police chief David Warcup, Detective Constable Julie Jackson and former police officer Mark Cane.
