Health Minister apologises for swearing in House

HEALTH Minister Jim Perchard has issued a ‘full and unreserved apology’ for swearing at Senator Stuart Syvret during States question time.

In the Assembly today the minister read out a statement in which he asked Members to forgive him for using ‘unstatesman-like language in a private conversation’ with Senator Syvret on 10 March.

The controversy broke out during States question time when Senator Syvret claimed that the minister had whispered: ‘You are full of f*****g s**t and why don’t you go and top yourself, you bastard?’ in his ear.

In his statement, Senator Perchard (pictured) maintained that he was misquoted. ‘Firstly, I wish to make it very clear to Members that I did not lie to the House during that sitting and that I absolutely reject the allegations about the precise words I used at the time,’ he said.
