Child abuse inquiry: First court case

A FORMER warden of a children’s home has become the first person to be charged in connection with the major investigation by the States police into historical child abuse.

Gordon Claude Wateridge (76) appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He was char-ged with indecently assaulting three girls under the age of 16 more than 30 years ago at the then Haut de la Garenne children’s home.

Wateridge, originally from Croydon but now of Rue de Maupertuis, St Clement, is accused of indecently assaulting Miss A, Miss B and Miss C between January 1969 and December 1973.

He is also charged with possessing a firearm without a valid firearms certificate on 29 January 2008 at his home.
