SoJP comment following Drean case

Thursday 7 February 2008

'The States of Jersey Police note the verdict of the Royal Court in the case involving Patrick Drean.

‘The Force cannot comment on individual cases, or the decisions of juries. However, as with all such cases there will be a post trial review with the prosecuting Crown Officers and we will maintain contact and provide appropriate support for the victims.

‘The Force will continue to offer anyone - male or female - who approaches them with sensitive information, whether it relates to current or historic allegations - a safe and confidential environment and sympathetic and sensitive officers to talk with them who have received specialist training.

‘The Force would reassure all victims of sexual abuse that if they decide they want to tell anyone about their experiences, that they will be helped and listened to, no matter how old or young they are. States of Jersey Police remains dedicated to helping the victims of such abuse, and where appropriate, bringing alleged perpetrators to justice.’
